This Week’s Etched Communication Showcase: PR Wins & Woes

On December 18, a jury found Creed 3 star Jonathan Majors guilty of assault and harassment and he now faces a 364-day jail sentence. This case highlights the challenges in public relations during high-profile legal disputes.

Key issues include managing public perception, responding to legal developments, and handling professional repercussions. Majors had been cast as Kang the Conqueror in upcoming Marvel films after debuting the role in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and two seasons of the TV series “Loki.”

Disney’s decision to remove Majors’ movies from its release schedule and his PR firm’s reported severance are examples of the professional impact of such cases. His attorney’s insistence on his innocence and portrayal as a victim reflects the complex narrative battles in public and legal arenas. This case illustrates how legal and public narratives intertwine, influencing careers and public opinion between legal strategy and public image.

Key actions would include:

Strategic Communication: Emphasize Majors’ contributions and character, highlighting his positive public image and work. This can help counteract the negative press.

Legal Coordination: Ensure that public statements align with legal strategies, avoiding contradictions that could harm the court case or public opinion.

Media Engagement: Limit exposure to the media but prepare a set of key messages for any necessary interactions. This helps in controlling the narrative.

Public Support: Engage Majors in community service or charitable work, demonstrating his commitment to positive values.

Online Reputation Management: Monitor and address misinformation online to maintain a balanced view of the situation.

Long-Term Planning: Prepare a rehabilitation strategy post-trial, regardless of the outcome, focusing on rebuilding Majors’ reputation and career.

We consider this a PR Woe…….

Comment below and let us know what you think. Is he guilty? Did Disney do the right thing?
