Communicators have seen sweeping changes across social media and more recently, the pandemic has forever changed user behaviors. Although Facebook and Instagram still have their place in the market, Clubhouse has become extremely sought after due to its mysterious and elite nature. So what is Clubhouse? Clubhouse is an evolving chat-based social media app that is, for now, invitation only.

While using the app, users can access various chat rooms to listen and participate in the conversation. Clubhouse is a live audio app that allows users to attend and actively participate in live discussions. The app is a never-ending conference covering a variety of topics. Users can bounce from room to room or host their own rooms, which people can pop in and out of. Conversations can last for hours or minutes, depending on your room and the conversation. Most social media apps contain the risk of the information being recorded or re-posted, but nothing can be saved in Clubhouse. You have to be actively listening or you risk missing the conversation.

How do you use Clubhouse?

The app is available via the app store just like any other app. Simple enough, right? However once you’re on, it’s quite exclusive. Logging in, you’ll see a straightforward homepage that highlights the available discussions at the time and chats planned for later that day. The algorithm correlates with who you are following and your contact list. So your interests will likely appear for you to join, much like the explore page on Instagram.

What people are talking about on Clubhouse and why you should be a part of the conversation

Clubhouse allows users to partake in network opportunities, podcast-style discussions, and panel discussions. Clubhouse also enables users to recreate real-life interactions. So how can the public relations industry specifically benefit from Clubhouse? Clubhouse introduces a new networking space that is currently attracting diverse professionals of every industry. These virtual, real-time chats allow for professionals in the public relations industry to host rooms similar to Q&A panels about all things PR.

Spearheading these conversations can jumpstart a career in PR, help establish lucrative relationships with media outlets and provide unfiltered insights from consumers and people in the industry. The app is also being used to find potential client prospects as well. The app is quickly taking over as THE social media platform, and many media experts expect the app to rival that of LinkedIn and Twitter. Clubhouse has climbed up the social (media) ladder and is fulfilling a niche that was brought on by the pandemic.
